Planning
Plan a year that recaps well
A recap is a by-product of the year, not a design exercise. Three lanes and one rule make the difference.
Three lanes
- The anchor. One recurring format you can sustain: a weekly frame, a monthly series, a place you return to.
- The experiment. One slot for something that might fail. Recaps are more interesting when one of the nine surprises you.
- The quiet. Space for the posts that are not part of any plan — the ones that end up in the nine.
One rule: post the imperfect one
The posts people answer are rarely the ones you planned. Keeping the imperfect shot in the feed is what gives a year texture — and what gives the recap its best tile.
Cadence over volume
Twelve posts that each do something beats eighty that repeat themselves. The recap will show it either way: the grid is unforgiving about repetition.
One anchor per month, one experiment per month, one post you almost did not publish. That is enough for a nine worth publishing.
How often should I post?
Enough to sustain an anchor. The recap rewards variety, not volume.
Does a quiet year break the recap?
No — a quiet year can be a great recap if it says so honestly.
